Aaronson still has a release clause in his contract that could see him loaned out again, and he had interest in Germany, but opted to return to Leeds. Aaronson spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Union Berlin. Sources say the player feels he has unfinished business in England, and Farke plans for the American to play a key role in their promotion bid. Leeds finished third, but lost to Southampton in the Championship playoff final.
The 23-year-old Aaronson had a difficult start to life in Germany but performed well, appearing in 30 of the club’s 34 league games and all six of their Champions League matches. The Yorkshire Evening Post was first to report that Aaronson was likely to remain at Leeds this summer. The Athletic first revealed last summer that Aaronson’s contract had a relegation clause, which meant interested clubs would only have to cover Aaronson’s entire wages as part of the deal. This clause remains in force.
